The purpose of this class is to gain the bare minimum experience needed to continue as a fencer and get an introduction to how it feels to be a fencer.

Please be prepared to attend every Monday & Thursday in the month for which you are registered to be able to progress to the ongoing Beginning class.

Beginning

Monday & Thursday
5:30pm-6:30pm
Ages 10+

Donations are appreciated to help maintain gear and continually improve our fencing program.

Fencers at this level should start procuring their own gear with help from the coaches. Students wishing to progress consistently should stay for Open Fencing from 6:30pm-7:30pm as well.

The basic movements from the Introductory class are honed and expanded upon. The full complement of basic blade and footwork techniques are introduced and practiced. The role of fencing in modern culture is presented, including the values of integrity, strategy, confidence, and perseverance.

This class is offered on a monthly rolling basis for students who have completed the Introductory class. Students remain at this level until a coach assesses that they should move up. Opportunities for competition begin at this level.

Intermediate

Monday & Thursday
5:30pm-7:30pm
Ages 10+

Donations are appreciated to help maintain gear and continually improve our fencing program.

Students demonstrating sufficient mastery over the simple actions in the Beginning class are invited to participate in the Intermediate class. Fencing actions with complex order, timing, and control are explored. Fencers start to develop their own style and are given more independence during Open Fencing to focus on improving specific techniques.

This class is offered on a monthly rolling basis. Students wishing to increase their fencing capability and help elevate the level of fencing at the club should consider going to tournaments on a monthly basis.

Advanced

Monday & Thursday
5:30pm-7:30pm
Ages 10+

Donations are appreciated to help maintain gear and continually improve our fencing program.

Students demonstrating sufficient progress in the Intermediate class are invited to participate in Advanced class.

Complex strategic thinking and techniques requiring a well-developed sense of distance and timing are explored. Fencers at this level begin to practice implementing techniques in less standard situations and consistently control the pace of a bout. Fencers are given more independence and ability to choose which long-term areas to focus on.
